I know I am getting old, but I also wonder about my shoes. My recent hip pain seemed to come on from out of nowhere, so it got me to thinking about the age of my purple Asics Gel-Kayano 19s. They are getting up there, and it could have been the combination of their age plus a very severe road camber that caused my hip pain two weeks ago. I’d prefer to think that the pain was related to shoe age rather than to my own age!
I use Shoe Tracker to track my shoe mileage for this very reason; it’s always good to know just how many miles are on a shoe, because this data, plus weird pain, can be a clue that it’s time for shoe retirement. I’ve read the blogs of plenty of runners who can get more miles out of their shoes than I seem to be able to do, but, to each their own. I’m the only one who has to walk (or run) a mile in my shoes!
Sometimes after 3-4 months of using shoes i notice they compress and don’t offer as much support or cushioning. I find an insert makes a huge difference. You may want to check some.
That’s a great idea, thanks! 🙂
